Eligibility to apply for WBCS 2022 Exam

The aspirants who want to apply for West Bengal Civil Service Examination 2022 must be eligible as per the notification. Thus, these eligibility conditions are discussed below. Moreover, the aspirants should ensure to possess the minimum eligibility before application as any deviation from this will lead to cancellation of the candidature.

Age Limit CriteriaAs per the notification, the aspirants should be within the age group of 21 to 36 years as on 01.01.2022. However, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 Years for SC/ST of West Bengal and by 3 years for OBC Candidates of West Bengal only. Please note that candidates who are SC/ST/OBC of other states, they will be treated as General / UR candidates.
Height RequirementsAlthough the height requirement is not mandatory for al post, but for the WBCS Group B, that is for West Bengal Police Service, the applicant should have the minimum height of 1.65 metres for male candidates and 1.50 metres for female candidates subject to relaxation in the case of candidates belonging to races such as Gorkhas, Garwalis, Assamese Tribals etc.

West Bengal Civil Service Exam Composition

WBCS or West Bengal Civil Service Examination is one of the toughest examination conducted by WBPSC. Actually, the W.B.C.S. (Exe.) etc. Examination consists of two parts – Written Examination and Personality Test. For the Written Examination Part, the West Bengal PSC will conduct the test in two successive stages, viz.,

  • Preliminary Examination (Objective MCQ Type) and
  • Main Examination (Both Objective MCQ Type and Conventional Type).

Based on the performance of the Prelims Exam, a number of candidates will be allowed admission to the Main Examination. Therefore, based on the results of the Main Examination, shortlisted candidates will be eligible to appear at the Personality Test. The Final Merit List of WBCS will be prepared with the total of Mains Exam Score and Interview Score.

WBCS Preliminary Examination Pattern

The WBCS Preliminary Examination is a screening test at the start of the selection process. This is s screening exam and the score in this test will not be counted for the merit, rather the applicants will be shortlisted for the mains exam on the basis of prelims exam result. The Preliminary Exam is a single paper MCQ based examination of 200 marks on the following topics.

WBCS Mains Examination Pattern

The WBCS Prelims Examination Qualified candidates will have to appear for the Mains Examination. The Mains Examination is a mix of objective and descriptive papers. The Mains Examination will have six (6) compulsory papers while there will be two optional paper which will be conventional in nature.
